Overlapping babies’ voices

Overlapping babies’ voices

How are you responding to babies’ vocal sounds?

There are times that you respond by saying, “Yes, yes,” or “What happened?” However, are there times when you match the sound the baby is making?

When parents play with their children (aged 4 months, 12 months, 1.5 years, and 2 years), we noticed the following actions being taken:

a) The mothers imitated the baby’s voice.
b) The researcher changed how they responded when the babies spoke over their mother’s voice.

Then babies aged 1.5 and 2 years old started to demonstrate other behaviors, which can be considered “musical” (such as making rhythmic sounds with toys)—when they played while speaking over their mother’s voice. There also seem to be further effects, so we will continue analyzing this topic.
