After acquiring his PhD in Science at Waseda University in 2001, Matsuda was employed as a researcher at the Riken Brain Science Institute. Then he was a visiting researcher at the Neuropharmacolgy Unit in Oxford University, and a researcher at the Japan Science and Technology Agency. He assumed his current position in 2012, and he is also a clinical-development psychologist.
He makes comprehensive observations about the development of babies from the combined standpoints of neurology, brain science, physics, developmental psychology, and clinical psychology.
