Purpose

The Center for Baby Science was opened as a new research center at Doshisha University in 2008, and in April 2016, it was approved as a Joint Usage/ Research Center by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT). We conduct research activities with consistent approaches from fetuses as the start of humans’ actions to neonates, infants, and toddlers, as a study of life-course development. We hope our center will be open to everyone as a place where experts from various fields can meet up with each other, hold debates about research topics, and collaborate to produce outcomes as ‘Baby Science’. Our center is equipped with several experimental rooms and we offer opportunities for researchers to conduct experiments using those spaces or to use our database. We also aim to provide feedback on research outcomes to people who are willing to learn the origin of ‘humans’ in any society or field involving developing babies. Our center is also a unit center of the Ecochil study, which is a large cohort study of 10 thousands pairs of children and their parents led by the Ministry of Environment of Japan. This survey draw a global attention as a study of health impact by environment. Our center as the Joint Usage/Research Center for ‘Baby Science’ appointed by MEXT will be making progress in order to achieve this mission.
